What is Messy Church?

Messy Church enables people of all ages to belong to Christ together through their local church. It is a way of being church, which is particularly suited to families, but welcoming to all. It meets at a time and on a day that suits local families and is particularly aimed at people who have never belonged to a church before. It is ecumenical and seeks to work with all Christian churches.

At Trinity Methodist Church, we meet on the 2nd Sunday of every month, from 4pm - 6ish. Outside posters and a big banner let you know when it's on.
Messy Church is relaxed and informal, a chance to meet others: talk, play, create, celebrate, worship and eat.
Messy ...... because it describes each one of us! Nobody is perfect and each of us leads messy lives for many reasons.
Messy ...... because we can get messy (if we want to!) doing crafts and activities at the start of our session.
Messy ...... because there is always room for spontaneity in our planned themed sessions.

What happens at Messy Church?

Everyone starts arriving around 4pm (avoiding car park charges) and our welcome team will greet you and help you with any queries you may have. After registering, you can join in some or all of the fun crafts and activities in the hall. We might be doing sticking, cooking, painting, water play, construction or free play. This is different every month and is based on the theme we have chosen. We will send you a monthly bulletin to give you details of our next event.

A typical session might look like this:

4pm: Creative and activity time in the lower hall – a chance to try your hand at some fun crafts and chat with other Messy people. This includes grown ups too!

4.45pm: Worship time upstairs in the church - a time to be together and learn about God’s love in a fun, relaxed and interactive way in song, dance, video and stories

5pm: Tea time: a chance for us to have a proper chat and enjoy some delicious food together as a family. No need to cook a meal when you get home!

5.45pm: Special announcements and birthdays

6pm: Home time

How much does it cost?

Messy Church is a free event for all ages, however we do appreciate any donations to cover the costs involved

Do I need to book?

No, just turn up. All we ask is that a responsible adult must accompany their child/children and stay for the whole session joining in with the fun activities on offer (if you wish!)
